Each task has its tool

Not using the right tools for the cutting and installation of crown mouldings, cymas, baseboards, ogee mouldings, and door and window frames, can result in major problems leading to waste of time and money and, ultimately, in less than perfect results, showing few or many flaws.

Be well prepared

Don’t get caught. Make sure you have all the necessary tools and materials before you undertake your project. Many trips to the hardware store due to lack of planning can be frustrating, but more importantly, can be a waste of precious time.

Use the right tools

Without having to spend a fortune on professional tools, make sure to nonetheless use quality tools to ensure precision and good stability. From the measuring, to the cutting and the installation of the moulding, you should have the right tools to meticulously perform your tasks. Below is a list of tools you should have in your toolbox. Depending on the material you are using, some tools will obviously not be necessary:

  • Saw and miter box
  • Hammer and headless pin nails / finishing nails of various lengths
  • Measuring tape
  • Universal bevel protractor
  • Bevel square
  • Board or laser level
  • Nail punch
  • Wood filler
  • Sandpaper
  • Latex sealer
  • Masking tape
  • Wood adhesive
  • Chalk line
  • Stud finder
  • Safety goggles

Safety first!!

Make sure you always wear safety goggles, a good pair of working shoes (please, no sandals!), and adequate clothing. Avoid loose clothing; they have caused a number of workplace accidents.

Whenever possible, keep your working environment free of tools and materials you do not need. A cluttered workspace increases the risk of injury.

Make sure you keep children and pets away from the rooms undergoing renovations. Many objects that could be dangerous to their safety can be found in these workspaces, even that of the most careful handyman: a dropped nail, wood splinters, tool cords, etc.

You don’t have all the necessary tools and you don’t want to invest in them? Call us! Mineault Finition carries all the professional tools required to perform precise and meticulous moulding installation projects!
